Triumph for son of star

ON THE eve of Smithfield Show, it was appropriate that a son of Allanfauld Vagabond, a bull that has sired so many winners at Earls Court, should top the bidding at 6000gns at the British Charolais Cattle Societys bull show and sale.

Huntershield Napoleon is out of a Brampton Fourstar cow and was consigned by JR Mews from his herd at Hexham, Northumberland. Buyer was M Ashton, Welshpool.

Leading breeder Esmor Evans sold his third prize winner Maerdy Nuclear at 4400gns to Jim Warnock and Sons, Biggar, Lanarkshire. Nuclear is by the late Maerdy Grimaldi, the French import that continues to leave a legacy of power and shape.

Averages: 53 bulls £2048 (Harrison & Hetherington) &#42
