Turbine power question
THE Duke of Northumberlands estate is in negotiations with National Power to determine whether a wind turbine scheme proposed by one of the Dukes tenant farmers is viable.
Award-winning farmer Ian Brown, whose Lee Moor Farm, at Rennington, is regularly cited as a classic example of successful diversification, wants to build two 60m wind turbines to add to the many hi-tech schemes in operation at his farm. The schemes act as a showcase for new methods and attitudes in modern agriculture.
But his plans could face stiff opposition. Similar proposals for wind turbines elsewhere in Northumberland have met with fury from local residents who see them as blots on the landscape and a threat to tourism. *
