Ugandan tea growers put faith in fair trade
TEA growers from small-holdings on the uplands of western Uganda hope their volatile incomes will be sustained by the launch of a new fair trade agreement.
The Teadirect agreement will offer a premium above the market price.
Average earnings for small growers with farms amounting to one hectare are just £300 a year. The growers depend on one market in Mombasa, Kenya to sell their tea.
