UK super-levy down
NATIONAL super-levy payments for the 1997/98 milk year have been cut slightly after the Intervention Boards programme of verification visits and final adjustment to buyers registered quota.
Producer/processors have gained most. Although some individual wholesale producers may be affected, the net effect for the UK is an almost unchanged levy of £29.37m.
But the levy for direct sales has been reduced by £0.4m to £2.3m, after errors were found in almost a quarter of the 257 reports examined. Revised calculations reduced over-quota production by 1.6m litres to 9m litres, leaving a final payment of 16.12p/litre, a saving of almost 1p/litre. *
