UK wheat price edges up HGCA

  • Delivered feed wheat prices ended last week around 50p-1/t higher. Feed barley prices remain largely unchanged.
  • There was little overall change to the supply and demand position since the preceding Friday, with inland consumer markets seeking mostly nearby cover and port activity beginning to draw supplies from further afield.
  • Without fresh news to stimulate the grain markets, currency fluctuations became the key influence determining delivered prices. UK delivered wheat prices took support from a stronger Euro/Pound rate as UK grain became more competitive against Continental grain markets.
  • Cereal farmers took advantage of widespread fine weather late last week and began or continued with spring land work. This influenced the level of farmgate grain sales, which were reportedly lower than in previous weeks, despite the slight upturn in wheat prices.
