Union seeking tasty farmers

By FWi staff

FAIR farming faces are sought by the National Farmers Union to encourage shoppers to buy food bearing the little red tractor logo.

The union says entrants must reflect the core qualities of the British Farm Standard mark logo (pictured below) — caring, trusted, fresh, wholesome and British.

The contest is open to both male and female farmers, who will be asked to give details including their height and chest size.

Winners will receive cash prizes and the chance to tell shoppers about the logo and why they should buy food on which it appears.

NFU head of public affairs Diane Lamb said: “Farmers are a dynamic, friendly and exciting bunch and there is lots of talent out there.

“What we are looking for is for farmers to make up a ‘team of champions’ to present a new face for the farming industry.

The red tractor logo appears on thousands of food product in supermarkets to show high food hygiene, environmental and animal welfare production standards.

The NFU will advertise the contest to farmers through the NFUs suite of member publications. The closing date is 15 September.

Applications will be welcomed from farmers themselves or nominations from friends and family.

Farmers will be asked to provide a photo and information sheet stating how they match the values of the logo.

Application forms are available from the NFU website at www.nfu.org.uk or from NFU regional offices.
