US sees record year for mushrooms
The US produced a record crop of mushrooms in the 1998/99 season.
The valuation of $871m put on the crop beats the previous record by
9%, according to the US department of agriculture.
The market for speciality mushrooms also grew, with the sales volumes
rising 36% to 13m pounds.
The number of commercial growers has slipped to 150 from 440 some 15
years ago.
