US still developing terminator gene
THE United States Department of Agriculture is continuing to develop the much criticised "terminator gene" technology which was created to render genetically modified seeds sterile.
Two new terminator patents were recently granted to the USDA and Delta & Pine Land Seed Co, the worlds largest cotton seed company according to the Rural Advancement Foundation International (RAFI), an international agricultural watchdog based in Canada.
There is world-wide opposition to terminator technologies.
Even biotechnology company Monsanto, before their take-over of Delta & Pine fell through last fall, announced they would never bring the terminator to market. *
