Valuation wrangle

THE NFU is trying to build a legal case against the 14-day time limit placed on farmers wishing to appeal against foot-and-mouth livestock valuations.

The union believes the time is too short for farmers who have gone through the emotional upheaval of seeing their stock slaughtered. It also says, particularly in the early stages of the epidemic, producers may not have been made aware of any deadline.

A legal team, based at the NFUs HQ in London (020-7331 7366), is asking farmers who have had late appeals rejected to contact them. &#42
