Vets want review of animal medicine

THE British Veterinary Association (BVA) has called for a review of the distribution and regulatory systems governing animal medicines in the UK.

The association believes the systems contribute to the high cost of veterinary care products which are more expensive here than in other countries.

The call comes against a background in which UK prices for treatments are sometimes twice as high as other parts of the world.

Keith Baker, president of the BVA, speaking at the associations annual dinner in Edinburgh, warned also of the dangers of illegal import of medicines.
