Vital to pinpoint ectoparasite ills
TREATING sheep for ectoparasites correctly requires an accurate diagnosis of the problem, according to SAC vet Alastair Greig.
He warns that scab is present in at least 10% of UK flocks and can occur all year round. Lice are also increasingly causing problems in sheep. But ticks and keds can also cause sheep to scratch and lose wool, he adds.
SAC vet labs are offering Scottish producers diagnosis of fleece or scab material for ectoparasites, with financial support from SEERAD. The service is available through local vets and will last until the end of November. *
