Weather suggests need for lime, boron and sulphur

LIMING will be necessary on Scottish land at some point in the future if crop failure is to be avoided, according to technical advice given in The Herald today (Monday).

Wet weather this year means that liming has fallen to “all-time low”, the newspaper says.

There is no concern for a shortfall in the near-term but it would be “extremely worrying” if the poor weather continues next year.

The article also identifies boron, sulphur and nitrogen deficiency as potential problems because of the particular weather conditions this year.
