WINNER of last weeks 20th National Holstein Show, but the first held under the Holstein UK and Ireland banner, was Welcome Stormy Lightening.

Shown by joint owner David Swale, she topped the 412 entries from 122 exhibitors at the show, judged by US breeder Brian Garrison. The cows other two owners are Alan Swale, Joylan Farms, and Roy Beattie of the Delevan herd.

Fourth calving

Welcome Stormy Lightening was sired by Diamond Oak Stormy – a Blackstar son – and yielded 12,395kg at 3.9% fat and 3.2% protein in her third 305-day lactation. Following her fourth calving in October, she is currently yielding 62kg a day.

While reserve champion Excalibar Saucy Skychief had the best udder in the show, Welcome Stormy Lightening had better overall conformation particularly in her mobility, leg-set, frame and body, said Mr Garrison.
