Welsh rally behind livestock co-op

LEADING Welsh farming organisations have rallied to the support of the regions proposed new livestock co-operative.

To proceed, The Welsh Meat Company Ltd must hold 1000 250 cheques from farmers on 28 June.

As the deadline approaches the projects principal backers, the National Assembly for Wales and Welsh Development Agency, have renewed their appeals for farmers not to miss a golden opportunity.

Enthusiastic backing has come from the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, the National Sheep Association, Meat and Livestock Commission, the Wales Federation of Young Farmers Clubs and Future Farmers of Wales in the past week.

The co-ops nominated directors remain tight-lipped about the number of investors who have signed up.

John Davies, who farms at Merthyr Cynog, Powys, says: My concern is that farmers tend to leave form-filling until the last minute and they may miss the deadline.
