Wensleydale demand prompts expansion

THE Hawes Creamery, maker of Wensleydale cheese, has acquired Fountains Dairy Products, based in Kirkby Malzeard, Yorkshire.

Increasing demand for Wensleydale has meant that Hawes Creamery no longer has the capacity to make the full range of cheese developed over the past eight years.

“We are confident that the move will bring long-term security and economic benefit to both Hawes and Kirkby Malzeard,” said managing director David Hartley.

The move will enable Hawes Creamery to make twice as much cheese and continue to develop new lines.
