Wheat up 2-3/t – HGCA

WEAKER sterling, robust domestic demand and limited farm sales cobined to push delivered wheat prices up as much as 3/t last week.

Feed wheat ex-farm prices in the high 60s are now achievable in most regions.

Wheat futures were also higher, with old-crop prices up around 2. New crop prices were close to unchanged.

Over 380,000 tonnes of wheat was traded on LIFFE, the largest weekly volume since early October.

Barley prices were generally steady. In currency news, the MPC left UK interest rates unchanged.

WHEAT exports to non-EU countries to end-November reached 101,000 tonnes, with November at 32,000 tonnes.

Non-EU barley exports reached 391,000 tonnes to end-November, with trade for the month at 28,000 tonnes.

October wheat exports to EU countries totalled 244,000 tonnes, according to Intrastat.

UK wheat area was revised down 5000ha from the provisional estimate to 2.086m ha in the final UK June census results published Thursday.

The barley area was revised down by 18,000 ha to 1.128m ha.
