Wight and Man ban gene crops

TWO British islands have decided to ban genetically modified crops trials, in a move hailed by environmentalists as a setback to the biotech industry.

The decision by the the Isle on Man and the Isle of Wight to ban crop trials has been followed by other authorities, reports The Express.

It says West Lindsay District Council in Lincolnshire, where two GM trials have already been held, has decided to call for a five-year freeze on outdoor trials.

Greenpeace say these bans send the government a clear message that consumers and landowners firmly reject genetic manipulation of the food chain.
