Wild boar comeback could
lead to disaster

IT has been 300 years since wild boars disappeared from the British countryside, but escapees from farms are once again starting to rebuild their numbers.

There are now fears that the accidental reintroduction of wild boars into the British countryside could lead to destruction and disease, according to some farmers and environmentalists.

Results of a survey by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) on Britains wild boar population is expected to be released in a couple of months. MAFF believes there are less than 1000 wild boars on the loose – mainly in Dorset. But everyone agrees that their numbers are increasing countrywide.
