Wolds benchmark soon

ABOUT 150 acres larger than the average holding in Yorks a commercial unit on the Wolds will provide a good benchmark for the farmland market in the area.

In a ring fence High Caythorpe Farm, Rudston, near Bridlington, is a 392-acre grade 2 mainly arable unit guided at £1.25m by Andrew Black, FPDSavills.

"This class of unit will hold recent values as well as anything," says Mr Black who values the land at about £3000/acre.

Current cropping is a rotation of peas and combinable crops with a 200 sow pig enterprise utilising the range of mainly general purpose buildings, there is grain storage for 800t.

"There is a shortage of commercial units at the moment and the signs are that many farmers are taking a long term view and properties in the right place are selling well," he says.
