Officers from the Devon and Cornwall Police roads policing team and Barnstaple CID are investigating the incident to establish the circumstances. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has also been informed.
News of the tragedy emerged during the annual Farm Safety Week (July 20-25), which aims to raise awareness of health and safety on farms to reduce serious and fatal accidents.
The latest HSE figures revealed that 20 people lost their lives in accidents on farms during the 2019-20 financial year.
However, there is concern over an apparent spike in farm deaths after eight people lost their lives in farm-related accidents during April and May.
