Wootton trailers calls in receivers
ONE of Britains best-known manufacturers of agricultural trailers has called in the receivers.
Lincs-based Ken Wootton Ltd, which also makes Gull trailers, blames reduced demand which left the company heavily reliant on selling to the building and haulage sectors.
Chartered accountant Deloitte & Touche has been appointed receiver to try to sell the business as a going concern.
Ken Wootton founded his trailer company in 1976, and the firm now employs 50 workers. It received an award at the Royal Agricultural Show in 1997 for making an outstanding contribution to agricultural mechanisation.
"Its present position shows how British agriculture is virtually on its knees," says Lindsay Denney of Deloitte & Touche. He anticipates interest from Continental Europe or the US. *
