YOUNG FARMERS

ROUND-UP

Denmark is hosting the annual European Rally of YFCs and 4H clubs this year. It is to be held at Horsens when the theme will be "Give and take from your organisation".

The Young Farmers Clubs of Ulster have already selected the four members who will make up its team. They are Cynthia Hamilton of Strabane YFC, Karen Wallace of Lylehill YFC, Clarence Calderwood of Finvoy YFC and Glenn Mayne of Annaclone & Magherally YFC.

&#8226 Carol-singing Gwent young farmers raised more than £800 for a number of charities this Christmas. Causes supported included a special care baby unit, the Blind Association and charities providing cancer research and care.

Self-employed farm secretary Jackie James is Gwent federations newly-elected chairman. Jackie is the treasurer and former chairman of Llangwm & Llansoy YFC. Tim Hill of Usk YFC is the new vice chairman.

&#8226 Shawbury YFC, Shropshire, is marking its 60th anniversary with a dinner dance at Radbrook Hall Hotel, Shrewsbury on Sat, Mar 21, to which past members and friends are invited. Tickets from Neyland Dale (01952-541267).

&#8226 Hereford young farmers contribution to Hereford cathedral has been recorded in stone. County chairman Julia Whittall and Glyn Morgan, one of the organisers of the harvest festival held by YFC and the countys other rural organisations, have presented a cheque for £800 to the cathedrals sponsor-a-stone initiative. This – the largest single donation to the Hereford Cathedral Perpetual Trust – comprises proceeds from the chairmans ball and part of the collection taken at the harvest festival. A stone has been engraved in acknowledgement.

&#8226 Northumberland young farmers and friends have raised £1100 in memory of Irene Rogerson (née McLaren) their former county organiser who died from cancer last April. The money has been shared equally between the Macmillan Community Nursing Service and a fund held by Northumberland Federation of YFCs to be used for training purposes.
