Lincoln Reds sell to 5,800gns at Newark

Demand for Lincoln Reds at the breed’s autumn sale was strong, with a top price of 5,800gns in the select offering of bulls, while females reached 3,000gns.

Leading trade was Foulness Leroy from Chris Page, Brough, East Yorkshire. This Market Stainton Norman son was reserve male champion and junior champion at the Great Yorkshire Show earlier in the year.

He’s out of the Beverley Henchman daughter Walmer Lass M73 and sold to RG Parkinson and Son, Donnington On Bain, Louth.

The day’s second best sale and top female price of the day at 3,000gns went for the February 2013-born heifer Vickers Field Kelsie S24, from T H Charlton, Spalding, Lincs. This Beverley Logan daughter is out of Beverley Kelsie L9, a St Fort Dickens daughter and was the choice of R Mawer, Horsington, Woodhall Spa.

Following her at 2,500gns was a heifer from the Clough family’s Beverley herd, Spilsby, Lincolnshire. This was Beverley Odelia R58, a June 2012-born heifer by Donnington Legend and out of Beverley Odelia L85, a Berverley Hunter daughter. She sold having run with Beverley Renown and was knocked down to ME Williams, Braybrook, Market Harborough.

Then taking the next best bid of 1,700gns was another Beverley heifer from the Cloughs, Beverley Hannah R38, a Beverley Janitor daughter out of Beverley Hannah G49. Also sold having run with Beverley Renown she sold again to ME Williams.

Selling for 1,550gns was the female champion Auchmacoy Grace S199, a March 2013-born heifer from Ellon, Aberdeenshire-based S Buchan. This heifer is by Auchmacoy Langworth and out of Donington Grace H5, a Donington Email daughter. She sold to Dun Clarke, Stixwold, Woodhall Spa.

A trio then traded at 1,500gns.

The first at this money was Donington Diana R32 from J G Parkinson, Louth, Lincolnshire. She’s a Beverley Kudos daughter out of Donington Diana F9, a Donington Baron daughter. She sold in-calf to Donington Pioneer and found a new home in Shetland with Stuart Roberts, Muckle Roe, Brae.

Second at this level was another in-calf heifer from the same home, Donington Gloria R64. Again by Kudos she’s out of Donnington Gloria J39, a Limestone Dunstan daughter, and again sold in-calf to Donington Pioneer. She went home with the University of Lincoln, Riseholme.

The final 1,500gns call came for another entry from the Clough family, a Beverley Miss R41 Beverley Legend daughter out of Beverley Miss H35, a St Fort Dickens daughter. She was the choice of Edward Middleton, Ashby, Spilsby.

Averages; one bull £6,090; eight in-calf heifers £1,745.63; one cow and calf £1,312.50; three cows £1,172.50; 22 maiden heifers £1,028.52.
