Cereals 2022: Growing demand for Guttler Magnum roller

Guttler’s Magnum trailed roller has been around for several years, but the firm is reporting fresh interest from the no-till fraternity.

This is because the implement can be teamed with a front-mounted straw rake and tined ripper boards, making it a useful ally for post-harvest residue management and weed seed germination.

It can also be used after drilling with the tines in or out of work, depending on the conditions.

Eight 1.5m sections of Guttler’s Prisma roller are combined to give a total working width of 12.3m, and each is mounted on a pendulum system.

This allows them to move independently on vertical and horizontal planes to maintain even soil pressure in undulating fields.

The machine on show was fitted with hydraulic front ripper boards and a twin-row straw harrow, both of which have angle adjustment to vary the amount of levelling and soil disturbance.

An alternative configuration is to replace the front ripper boards with a simple levelling bar.

For transport, the frame folds horizontally to less than 3m wide and it has dual-circuit air brakes. On-farm price as pictured is about £57,000.
