A not too bad rape harvest
He said he has cut the “iffy” part of the crop with a yield of 4.2 t/ha (1.7 t/acre) which he said was “not too bad” while moisture content is slightly high at 10.5 %.
Mr Steer said that the crop ahead looked good and thick despite other farmers in Lincolnshire having problems with establishment due to a dry autumn last year.
He is also very impressed with his Royal variety.
“It‘s good because you only need a low sowing rate because it thickens out so much, it‘s like they turn into trees.”
Mr Steer still has another 28 ha (70 acres) to do and is just hoping for fine weather in which to do it.
