British Sugar reveals sugar beet campaign dates

British Sugar, after consultation with the NFU and growers, have announced when the 2012/13 harvest campaign will start.
“The campaign start dates have been chosen to strike a balance between the crop benefitting from the recently improved weather conditions and deliveries to our customers,” said a British Sugar spokesman.
“The lower level of sunshine and high rainfall this year has resulted in a later developing crop, which we have witnessed in samples seen so far.
“However, the rate at which the crop is currently developing from week to week is encouraging and we expect that to continue throughout the remainder of the growing season,” he said.
Factories at Bury St Edmunds, Newark and Wissington will open on the 20 September, with Cantley following shortly afterwards on 25 September.
