Combines roll in Bedfordshire
Tom Hipwell was on combining today (26 August) at Hill Farm, Sandy, Beds, after being rained off on Saturday night.
He was about 60% of the way through harvest, having cut 202ha (500 acres) of wheat, and hoped to get another 40ha (100 acres) in today.
“The quality is not too bad,” he said. However, take-all in the Einstein second wheat meant yields were below average at 8.9t/ha (3.6t/acre).
Mr Hipwell still had 364ha (900 acres) of Robigus, Oakley and Humber first wheats to combine, all of which looked well.
The Castille oilseed rape, most of which was cut some time ago, averaged 3t/ha (1.25t/acre).
