Potato and sugar beet aphid insecticide gets new formulations

A popular insecticide for aphid control in potatoes and sugar beet crops has two new formulations available this season.

The liquid and granule formulations will replace the previous powder formulation of the acetamiprid-containing insecticide Insyst.

Marketed in the UK by Certis Belchim, the insecticide is used by potato and sugar beet growers for the control of aphids and the management of viruses.

Insyst SL, the new liquid formulation, contains 120g/litre acetamiprid for the control of aphids on sugar beet, fodder beet, potatoes, wheat, rye, triticale and oats.

It also tackles pollen beetle, cabbage seed weevil and brassica pod midge on oilseed rape.

It comes in an Easyconnect 5-litre pack. The cap creates a closed transfer system when used with compatible couplers, which prevents spills, reduces operator exposure and speeds up filling.

Caroline Williams, Certis Belchim’s crop manager for potatoes and sugar beet, says: “Easyconnect is a big step forward in closed transfer systems.

“It’s an initiative we’re fully behind and Insyst SL is our first product to be made available for it.”

The alternative granule formulation, Insyst SG, contains 20% w/w acetamiprid for the control of aphids on sugar beet and potatoes, and pollen beetle on oilseed rape.

It has an Extension of Authorisation for Minor Use (EAMU) for control of aphids on outdoor fodder beet and control of aphids, alfalfa mosaic virus and bruchid beetle on outdoor crops of vining peas and beans.
