Eighty firefighters tackle potato warehouse blaze

About 80 firefighters are battling a massive blaze that broke out at a large potato warehouse in Norfolk.
Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service sent 12 fire engines to a store at Camp Farm, Roudham, near Snetteron, at 9.15am on Thursday (13 September).
Assistant fire chief Roy Harold said no one had been hurt in the blaze. However, the fire destroyed potatoes, grain and seed, as well as a combine harvester.
Devastated farmer Paul Rackham, the owner of the site, said 2,500t of grain had gone up in flames, valued at about £500,000, and the warehouse was worth nearly £2m.
Eyewitnesses said clouds of smoke could be seen spiraling from the building from nearly two miles away. The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.
A spokesman for Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters had managed to bring the fire under control by lunchtime Thursday and stop the flames spreading to neighbouring buildings.
“The fire is under control, but firefighters will remain on the scene for at least a day as a precaution and to carry out a full fire investigation,” the spokesman added.
