Fantastic harvest at Bourton Hill

Ian Branstone is having a fantastic harvest at Bourton Hill Farm, Bourton-on-Water, Gloucestershire.
“The Cabernet and Sesame oilseed rape were both amazing, averaging over 5t/ha (2t/acre,” he said. “We’re very pleased with that.”
Quench spring barley was also yielding well and was passing for malting use with a nitrogen content of 1.69%.
“It’s much better than I ever hoped for. We might have a further go at it this afternoon (8 August) if it stays dry.”
Although the wheat had lost tillers during the dry spring, neighbouring crops were yielding better than expected, so Mr Branstone was hopeful that his wheat would follow suit.
“So far it’s been a stonking good harvest – I’m very pleased.”
