GB prices hit Irish fert market

IRISH FERTILISER sales always follow a very different pattern to those in Britain, but this year‘s GB prices have had a knock-on effect to those in Ireland.

The frantic cut-price early buyers market does not exist in Ireland, although some merchants will buy early to put product into store.

Very keen prices in Britain have, however, resulted in some low grassland product pricing in Ireland for immediate usage.

In the Republic, last year’s disastrous urea season resulted in leftover stocks of some 20,000t.

This could well have been written off but the huge price of replacement material sees this still available from €200/t (£135/t), with CAN at €160-180 (£108-£121).

In Northern Ireland, urea is largely unavailable but limited volumes of CAN are trading at £120/t, equivalent to AN at £159/t.

Special deals on 27.6.6 in the North brought this crashing down in July and this is still moving into store at £135/t.

Consequently, 25.5.5 has also dropped in price although the farm market is dead.

27.6.6 is known as 27. 2½. 5 in the Republic, where nutrients are sensibly declared as elements rather than oxides.

Farm buying is also quiet although limited imports are available at €180-€190/t (£121-£128/t) ex-ship.

Nothing further is expected to happen in these markets now until January or February.

In Britain however, new prices have just been published by manufacturers reflecting the upward trend, with the November price of AN now at £140/t. Actual sales are currently very quiet.
