Good yields but prices trouble Shrops grower

Things were going fairly well for farmer Paul Bird on the Shropshire/Staffordshire border.

Two thirds of Winner oilseed rape crop averaged 4.2t/ha which he said was “fairly good for us”.

He was also pleased with the oil content of 44%, but he was not happy with the low prices he would be getting for his crops.

Mr Bird said most of his wheat looked well, but this rain was causing some of it to lean. “We just need a few days of nice weather now,” he added.
