Harvest finished in Cambs

Harvest has finished for Peter Mead on Moors Farm, Cambridgeshire. He said things had not gone too bad this year, although he was a bit disappointed with oilseed rape yields of 3t/ha.

First year winter wheat Robigus yielded 9t/ha, and second year Napier yielded 8t/ha. He said last year had been a disaster so the yields were better this harvest. The quality of the wheat was also good.

Mr Mead said protein levels in the area had been very high at 15%, which was too high for biscuit making.

He added the prices need to be higher to compensate for high fuel costs: “It will put people out of business otherwise.”
