NFU Cereals Development Programme open for applications
NFU members aged between 25 and 35 with a keen interest in arable farming are invited to apply to the organisation’s Cereals Development Programme (CDP), which offers the chance to gain an in-depth knowledge of the arable sector.
Aimed at the next generation of decision-makers and future leaders of the combinable crops sector, the unique opportunity enables successful applicants to attend events, hear from guest speakers and build a network of like-minded colleagues.

What’s involved
Participants will take part in a number of visits held over the winter months to provide an insight into growing, grain marketing, plant breeding and policy-making.
This year’s programme includes trips to both the NFU and Openfield headquarters and a trip to the Houses of Parliament.
Industry visits to Portbury Docks, Moy Park and the John Innes Centre are also included.
Previous participants in the CDP have gone on to become both regional and national crops board members, as well as wider industry leaders and NFU officeholders.
The programme is operated in partnership with the seed, fertiliser and grain co-operative Openfield, and organised with CDP chairman Richard Heady, who was elected from the previous cohort.
How to apply
To apply, please email your CV to Luke Cox, NFU combinable crops policy adviser, along with a covering letter explaining why you’d like to be part of the programme.
The deadline for applications is 31 July 2023.
