Norfolk wheat yields better than last year
Cliff Armsby in Kings Lynn, Norfolk, said things were not going too badly at the moment.
“We’ve just had a run of four good days and so we’re now about 50% through the wheat.”
Yields were slightly up on last year at 10t/ha (4t/acre), with all varieties coming off around the same. Quality was also similar.
By comparison he said Optic spring barley did not do so well as last year at 5t/ha (2t/acre).
He added: “We’ve got another nine or 10 days left of combining wheat. We’re a little earlier than usual, probably by about a week.”
