Pleasing OSR harvest at Coningsby

Tim Lamyman has been busy combining oilseed rape for a client near Coningsby, Lincolnshire, over the past few days, with excellent results.

“It’s running exceptionally well; we’re into our second day cutting and it’s running at 5.3-5.6t/ha,” he said. “It’s got a really bold sample, too.”

So far, Mr Lamyman had cut 20ha of Incentive oilseed rape, and had another 26ha to do. “The good thing this year is that it’s coming in dry, at 8.5% – but the bad thing is the price – it’s absolutely disastrous.”

Mr Lamyman hoped to be into his own winter barley at Worlaby Farms, Louth, on Friday (18 July). “We’ve got some Florentine and Tower that’s nearly ready to cut, and it looks really well.

  • Area: 20ha
  • Yield: 5.3-5.6t/ha

“But I’m a bit worried about the weather forecast so I’d like to get some in the shed before it rains,” he said.

Harvest had only really got underway in the Coningsby area over the past two or three days, and even less had been cut further north, added Mr Lamyman.

“The oilseed rape and winter barley look quite good, but from a distance the wheat looks as if it’s got quite a bit of fusarium.

“We’ve had quite a lot of rain at home, so I’m a bit concerned about that.”
