Scots get NVZ extension

THE DEADLINE for Scottish farmers to claim financial aid to help manage Nitrate Vulnerable Zones has been extended to February 28, 2005.

The fourth and final round of the NVZ Grants Scheme offers 40% grants to help with the cost of slurry and manure storage systems or silage effluent tanks.

Farmers managing land in nitrate vulnerable zones must prepare a fertiliser and manure plan in compliance with the NVZ Action Programme.

If this plan indicates a need for investment in waste handling machinery or equipment, farmers can apply to their local SEERAD office for assistance up to a maximum of ÂŁ34,000 a farm.

Grant-aided works must be completed by October 31, 2005.
