Seed treatment gains new oat approval

Winter oat growers have another seed treatment option for the coming season following the recent approval of Kinto (triticonazole + prochloraz), BASF has announced.

At an application rate of 2litres/tonne of seed treated, Kinto is approved for the control of loose smut, seedling blight, foot rot and covered smut (rarely seen in the UK).

It has also been granted approval for seedling blight and foot rot control in winter rye and winter triticale, the firm said.

The recent Home Grown Cereals Authority planting survey found that the UK oat crop has grown by 24% in 2006 to 109,000ha.
