Slug problem in Hants

John Hayward from Knowle Farm near Fordingbridge in Hampshire said he had only cropped a third of his farm as there was not much point in planting any more in the advent of Single Farm Payment.

He finished cutting 16.8ha of Torro oilseed rape at 4.2t/ha. The crop was on a seed contract which he said he got a good price for.

Soissons winter wheat was hit by a slug problem in the autumn which has affected yields. He was disappointed by the 6.25t/ha of the first 21ha, but expects the remaining 32ha to do better.

Mr Hayward added that the quality looked good and wheat was still standing which makes up for poor yields.
