Stop-start in Cheshire
It had been a stop-start week for Andrew and Stephen Shaw in north Cheshire, with just above average results.
With 40% of winter oilseed rape harvested, big variations were seen in the yields. Winner yielded 2.5t/ha which was very disappointing for them. Andrew Shaw said the fields looked good but yields were below what he expected. He said: “I think Winner has had its day. It’s getting old.”
Low biomass variety Caracas produced surprising results. Despite their reservations, it yielded up to 6.3t/ha. Borneo yielded 4.25t/ha which they are likely to drop for more Caracas next year.
