Suffolk harvest “exceeded expectations”

Suffolk farmer Robert Claydon has finished harvest at Silverley Hall Farms near Newmarket.

He said oilseed rape and spring barley “exceeded expectations” as they were grown on very dry light land. Winner oilseed rape yielded 4t/ha on 40ha, and 60ha of Optic spring barley yielded 6.25t/ha.

Mr Claydon was happy with 160ha of Malacca winter wheat yielding 8.25t/ha. Having grown a lot of second wheats he is happy the crop yielded so well.

All crops made top specifications for malting and milling, he added. He plans to grow the same next year, with “definitely a few more milling wheats”.
