Wait on Maize till it’s warm
With recent falls in soil temperatures, maize growers planning drilling should wait until soil warms up or increase seed rates by 5% to compensate, advises MGA agronomist Simon Draper.
Poor grass growth is a good indicator of the drop in soil temperature, he adds. “It is best to only start drilling when soil reaches 8C at 9am at a depth of 5-6cm.”
