Farmer, 23, killed in grass-cutting accident
A young farmer was killed when he became trapped in a grass-cutting machine.
The 23-year-old farmer was discovered by a co-worker in a field at Cadishead Farm, in Salford, Greater Manchester, on Tuesday afternoon (8 August).
Police and paramedics were called to the incident, but when they arrived the man had died. It is believed that the man had sustained fatal head injuries.
North West Ambulance Service said part of the man’s body had become trapped and he was unconscious and not breathing when medics arrived.
An investigation by police and health and safety officials is under way to try to establish the cause of the accident.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “Shortly before 3.30pm on Tuesday 7 August 2012, police were called to a field near Astley Road in Salford following reports a man had been seriously injured and was trapped in farming machinery.
“Officers and paramedics attended and found that a man in his 20s had died.
“A joint investigation by GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit and the Health and Safety Executive is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
