Farmers invited to have their say on 2023 minimum wage plans

Farmers and farm workers are being encouraged to help inform new minimum wage rates in agriculture for 2023.

The Low Pay Commission is gathering evidence on the effects of the National Living Wage (NLW) and National Minimum Wage (NMW) to help decide its  recommendations on rates for 2023.

The NLW is on course to increase to £10.32 in April 2023, and by 2024 the rate for all workers aged 21 and over is expected to be £10.95.

The commission, an independent body, is also keen to hear about the impact that lowering the NLW age threshold to 23 last year had on 23- and 24-year-olds, and the potential impact on 21- and 22-year-olds of its eventual lowering to 21.

It is also considering the effects of the large increase in the Apprentice Rate in 2022, to align it with the 16-17-year-old rate.

The accommodation offset, which allows employers to deduct some accommodation costs from minimum-wage pay packets, will also be scrutinised.

The Low Pay Commission consultation 2022 is open until 6pm on 20 June 2022.
