Dairy cattle and store lambs shine at Leyburn sale
Leyburn Auction Mart, Yorkshire. Friday (18 November) launched the first of a series of Christmas shows and sales, with dairy cattle and store lambs taking the spotlight.
Judges Billy Atkinson and George Sledge awarded the champion dairy prize to David Alderson, Scorton for his pedigree Holstein second calved cow, which sold for £2,100. Reserve spot went to Peter and Lizzy Miles, Northallerton, for their pedigree Holstein calved heifer, which sold for £2,200.
In the lamb ring, 886 store lambs went under the hammer, with the champion prize going to Ronnie Bailey, Reeth, for a continental lamb, which went on to sell for £80. Overall, continental lambs averaged £65.90 a head, with Suffolks averaging £70.80, mules £64.80 and Swaledales £41.80.
