Dairy survey to show true worth

DAIRY FARMERS are being asked to take part in a survey to find out exactly how much their labour is worth.

Recent studies have valued producers‘ time at an arbitrary £10/hour or lower, which is much less than plumbers or directors of small businesses receive, said Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers chief executive Nick Everington.

“We are aware that farmers‘ skills and responsibilities vary enormously and this figure in most cases is far lower than their true value.”

The results of the study, which will be analysed by an independent human resources specialist, will help to lobby retailers for better milk prices, he added.

Anybody who wants to take part in the confidential survey should telephone the RABDF on 01926 887477 for a form.
