Duchy of Cornwall 15-year dairy tenancy available

The Duchy of Cornwall is offering a 142-acre well-equipped dairy unit on a farm business tenancy (FBT) for an initial term of 15 years.

Kersbrook Farm forms part of the Duchy’s Manor of Climsland Prior and is six miles south of Launceston in Cornwall.

It will be available from 25 March 2017, with a further 100 acres from 28 September 2017. Both pieces of land will be let on separate FBTs.

A farm house

The farm offers productive pasture land, extensive modern dairy buildings and a four-bedroom farmhouse.

The existing range of buildings – which includes four cubicle houses and a concrete yard – has previously serviced a larger acreage and a 250-cow herd.

There is a 20/40 herringbone parlour, a field water network and cow tracks throughout the holding.

The Duchy said its business model aims to enable tenants to “create thriving rural businesses that are financially secure and sustainable in the long term.

“On this basis we are seeking a tenant who can deliver not only the commercial aspects of the holding, but also the wider environmental and social benefits synonymous with contemporary rural business.”

Ideal tenant

According to the Duchy, the ideal candidate “would be someone with vision and dedication to their farming system.”

The Duchy added: “They will be looking for a long-term tenancy and somewhere they can expand their business as the holding grows and more land becomes available.

“The ability to be innovative and drive their business forward will be paramount. Kersbrook is a well-equipped dairy farm with good dairying/arable land and a family farmhouse, and the ideal tenant would mirror what the farm has to offer, both now and as it grows.

“Environmental values are also vital and prospective tenants should illustrate their commitment to the environment in tender proposals.

“The traditional barns at Kersbrook may also lend themselves to a diversified income and any thoughts and plans prospective tenants may have should be detailed in their tender.”
