Going, going…

MID-WALES auctioneer Frank Knight of Welshpool market is to retire after almost 50 years selling livestock in the region.

Mr Knight joined auctioneer Morris, Marshall & Poole in 1957, aged 19, and subsequently rose to become the firm’s principal partner in 1999.

During a career that has spanned the history of the CAP, Mr Knight also witnessed both the 1967 and 2001 foot-and-mouth outbreaks.

Mr Knight said he was confident of a future for livestock marts, despite supermarket pressure for farmers to supply stock directly.
