Immediate action needed to secure overseas shearers

Shearing contractors intending to employ Australian and New Zealand shearers this summer should apply for entry clearance for them now, says the National Association of Agricultural Contractors.

NAAC chief executive says under the new points-based system, UK contractors must now become licensed as a sponsor before they can apply for entry clearance for shearers. “It is vital contractors submit initial applications immediately to ensure the paperwork is in order before shearers start to travel.”

There will be signifcant paperwork involved with the new system and contractors should start the application process as a matter of urgency, she adds.
