NFU conference 2013: Tesco pledges to source more UK meat

Tesco has pledged to source more meat form the UK as part of a programme of changes following the horsemeat scandal.
Speaking ahead of the NFU conference, Philip Clarke, Tesco’s chief executive, vowed to change the supermarket’s sourcing policy to include “more collaboration with farmers”.
“The reason I’m here today talking to the NFU is to signal a change,” he said, in an interview with the BBC.
“A change which means we’ll have the most stringent testing regime, a change which means we’ll bring production closer to home, and a change which means more partnerships with farmers here in the UK.”
Farmers Weekly will bring you the latest on this story and more from the NFU conference throughout the day.
